Recording this from my phone so the template didn’t register my average pace which was 9:53! Woot woot! First time in a very long time I’ve been under 10:00. When I saw I was averaging 9:27 I decided to only run 10 instead of 12 and see if I could keep the pace without doing damage. The only pain I felt was after I pushed it to 8:10 to pass this chick I’d been following for 3 miles. I HAD to pass her! 😉
You check your email and see the subject line..”Scholarship for 10k”and think it’s a free entry for a 10k race!
I’m taking Celadrin for my joints, but since it has been cooler here I’ve been drinking coffee all day long. Now it’s had 2 effects on me. I get really quiet and sleepy (yes..I said sleepy). Since I have ADHD it seems to have a reverse effect on me. I think it also has been counter-acting the Celadrin.
My right leg is still bothering me, only in the sense that it hurts a little when I run. But it doesn’t seem to really effect my running. I did some after running stretches this time, only cuz I increased my distance by 2 miles this week. We’ll see in the morning if it helped. If so, then I’ll try to make sure to do it after each run. Even though I know you are SUPPOSED to do it anyway. Most of the time, I’m in a big hurry.
Lil slower tonite. Hit a lot of red lights. I think that’s why my best adductor is a lil sore today..from the stop and go
I did, then I didn’t. Back and forth. Of course we women have to make sure that our legs are shaved BEFORE we run. Heaven’s sake if we are struck by a car and everyone discovers Big Foot! To us (well me..I guess this is one of my few girly things) it’s like when mama says to make sure you have clean underwear on. 😉 So of course my body (cuz my quad was is still hurting) tried to tell me after my ritual that it was too late to run..it’s almost 7:30. HA! It was only 6:30! So my mind won again! Time to run!! Hop on!
When I run I think of lots of things and then there are the moments (plenty of them too) that I just zone out and don’t think of anything but ‘heal/toe’ cuz my leg starts to hurt and that is my minds way of helping to drowned out the thought. But this run I thought of how I told my son that ‘this year is MY year of BLESSING!!!’ It already started with an increase to full time employment where I work and finding a new place for my son and I. Now mind you it is still a room-share, but it is our own room and bathroom. We are both really excited. It’s a huge step forward for me.
Oh, and I did a few of Brad’s “Post run stretches” for my adductor…cuz I don’t have a groin 😉 Thanks Brad!
Happy training to ya’ll!!

I had it all in my head last night that I was going to run my loop at Mission Bay again today. It would be another 12 miles, but knowing me I woulda pushed it to 13. I’ve taken time off since Tues (that run hurt) to give my quad/adductor time to heal. Last night I was still feeling a twinge of discomfort, and still felt it a bit this morning. I was also totally unprepared for my run..mentally and as far as supplies.
I have discovered with experimentation the best energy supplements and timing for taking them. I take a GU Chocolate Outrage before I run, then I take a Honey Stinger (Ginsting) engery gel packet and a Honey Stinger energy chews packet (Cherry Blossom) along with me in my fanny pack, and a Arrowhead sports bottle full of water. About 3 miles into my run I take the Ginsting and open the pack of energy chews and put 4 chews on each side of my cheeks. I’ve notice that while they are in my cheeks they melt a little and keep my mouth from getting dry. Whenever I feel the need I’ll chew one here and there. This got me thru my 12 mile run last weekend even though my quad/adductor hurt on my very first step. I still continued.
I am out of my Ginsting and called up REI to see what time they close. Me and Murphy’s Law go hand in hand. It just so happened that they closed at 5pm to do their yearly inventory. HAHAHAHAHA. Go figure. I called every sporting goods store to see if they had it in stock. No one but REI carries this product. And I figured it was just another thing – other than my leg – telling me not to run today. So I decided to give my leg a few more days off. I’ll run on Tuesday night. Maybe 6. We’ll see 😉
Ran this on Tuesday, but for some reason my post disappeared.
Did my first run of the year at Mission Bay. This was a nice run. I am experimenting with my shoes. Road Runner Sports recommended these inserts I’ve been wearing for my entire training but for some reason lately they have been causing stress on my adductor muscle. So I took them out for my end of 2008 run & all was good. Did the same today except I put my gel heel inserts in. I do need arch support as I was a tard & threw away the original inserts. Walmart has there sports gel inserts I’m gonna get today
